Dynamic MT is dedicated to developing the best tools and resources for respiratory medicine.
Respiratory diseases continue to grow in prevalence worldwide. The main diseases are asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which is often more commonly referred to as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. These diseases affect an estimated 80-90 million people in the US, Europe and Japan and are both growing at a rate of over 5% per year.
Smoking is the key factor driving the growth of COPD. Even with stable or declining smoking rates in many countries, growth in the disease will continue. This is due to the fact that COPD often emerges later in life- sometimes many years after lung damage occurred. COPD is currently the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. There is no cure for COPD.

The current global market for asthma pharmaceuticals alone is over 8 billion USD per year, and respiratory diseases form one of the largest therapeutic areas. Prevalence of asthma has doubled in developed countries over the last 20 years. While many theories for this increase abound, no consensus on the underlying causes for the increase has yet emerged. An alarming fact is that the growth of asthma is strongest among children. Today over 7% of American children are affected with asthma, and one third of all paediatric emergency room visits are due to asthma. No cure is in sight for asthma, and current therapies treat the symptoms only.
Patient monitoring of respiratory disease is recommended by most physicians, but most techniques currently available have not changed much in the last few decades.Advances in semiconductor, computer, and internet technology are now providing new ways to assist in the treatment of respiratory diseases. The growth of doctors online also is creating new ways for doctors to interact with their patients, analyse patient results and conduct R&D. In several countries it is now mandatory that doctors have internet access in their clinics.
Dynamic MT was created in 2002 with the goal to take advantage of new technologies to develop equipment and software for respiratory medicine. At this time we have made available the most comprehensive software for the computation of Pulmonary Function Predictive Values. Browser based access to these tools allows them to be constantly updated and improved. Any corrections and feedback from users can also be immediately incorporated. We welcome your comments and feedback on the resources we have made available on this website. Additional tools and resources will soon be added- please visit often to see what's new.
Dynamic MT was founded by David Brawner, Ph.D. and Christopher Hegarty, Ph.D. and is based in Oberägeri, Switzerland.
